FULL LIST OF ALL ACCREDITED MARITIME SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA 2024 

We will be looking at the list of NIMASA approved Maritime Training Institutions in Nigeria and their various courses. NIMASA approved Institutions to offer Maritime Education and Training (MET) in accordance with the provisions of the International Convention on the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 (STCW) as amended.

MARITIME ACADEMY OF NIGERIA, ORON, AKWA IBOM STATE 

The Maritime Academy of Nigeria is Nigeria’s premier maritime institution, charged with the responsibility of training all Level of manpower to man Merchant Navy Ships, Ports, Maritime Engineering Workshops, Pilotage, Shipyards and other Marine related industries. The Academy is listed in the International Maritime Organization’s White list of countries that have fully complied with the STCW 1978 Convention, as amended in 2010.

FEDERAL COLLEGE OF FISHERIES AND MARINE TECHNOLOGY, VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS STATE 

The Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCFMT) is one of the Federal Tertiary Institutions established to meet the needs of the Agricultural, Fisheries and Maritime Subsectors of the Nigerian economy. The College was instituted in 1969 as a vocational training institute and assumed its current name in 1992.

CHARKIN MARITIME SAFETY CENTRE, PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE 

Charkin Maritime and Offshore Safety Centre is a leading provider of maritime and offshore safety training to the maritime and offshore oil and gas industries. It has its main state-of-the-art facility located on East-West in Port Harcourt. JOE MARINE INSTITUTE OF NAUTICAL STUDIES AND RESEARCH, EFFURUN, WARRI, DELTA STATE

Joemarine Institute of Nautical Studies and Research is an indigenous Nigeria firm registered in Nigeria with the corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the institute was founded by Late Capt. (Dr) Joel Opuro Epidei in 1997. Joemarine is certified by various Standard bodies in the maritime industry. The institute conducts maritime trainings which are in line with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) which meets the Standard of Training Certification and Watch keeping (STCW) conventions Code as amended. All their courses are tailored to meet the STCW Code and conventions as amended and model to the IMO current course model and duly approved by the Agency (NIMASA).

COASTAL MARITIME ACADEMY, IKOYI, LAGOS STATE 

Coastal Maritime Academy was established by a private-sector-initiative in 2008, with a clear mission of consistently providing qualitative maritime education and training for the ships of the Merchant Navy and allied industries.

The Academy was given approval by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to provide education and training on STCW ’95 Convention Courses in accordance with the requirements of the Standards of Training, Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarers, 1978 as amended in 1995 and 2010 Manila Convention with IMO Guidance on Implementation of IMO Model Courses. They maintain very high standards in service delivery, and their training instructors are imminently qualified in their respective disciplines.

TOLMANN ALLIED SERVICES CO. LTD, PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE

MATRAL MARITIME TRAINING CENTRE, AMUWO ODOFIN, LAGOS STATE 

Matral Maritime Training Centre was established as a private sector initiative, which was the outcome of resolutions of two international maritime conferences on development of African Seafarers held in Abuja, Nigeria in 2005; and Accra, Ghana in 2009; and also Transocean Nigeria one day international conference held in Lagos on May, 10 2010 on “the need for establishment of credible maritime training school in Nigeria”.

After some years of further research and workshop on human capacity development for the Nigerian maritime industry, some concerned Nigerian maritime experts/consultants and foreign partners came together to add their experiences to the promotion of high quality maritime education and training in support of the Federal Government’s efforts, through the establishment of Matral Maritime Training Centre in Nigeria. The Centre is accredited by Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and commenced operation in 2012.

IZISCO OBOS INSTITUTE OF MARITIME STUDIES AND TECHNOLOGY, EFFURUN, WARRI, DELTA STATE

Izisco Obos Institute Of Maritime Studies And Technology is an Institute that has over the years produced quality and skillful graduates. This institute is focussed on training manpower required for the oil and gas industries.
