This article is about the full list of all power plants in Nigeria this 2024 and their addresses/contact details. Power plants, also known as power stations, or generating stations are large industrial facilities that generate electricity from burning of fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, crude oil, etc. Some even generate hydroelectric power from water through large dams.

Fossil fuel power plants combust coal or crude oil to create the heat that is required to generate steam so as to drive turbines which generate electricity. In gas power plants, hot gases drive a turbine to generate the needed electricity, while a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant also uses a steam generator to increase the amount of electricity produced. These plants generate electricity reliably over long periods of time, and are generally cheap to build but they come with their own health and environmental hazards, releasing toxic substances into the environment that are harmful to both plants and animals.

Hydroelectric power plants generate electricity by storing water in vast reservoirs behind dams. Water from these large reservoirs flow through turbines to generate electricity. Hydroelectric dams can generate large amounts of low carbon electricity, and this is mainly what Nigeria as a country is dependent on for power generation but the number of sites suitable for new, large-scale dams is limited.

Nevertheless, they are still very much important in a country like Nigeria which relies heavily on hydroelectric power to power the national grid which serves millions of people in the country.
