The onboarding phase of the application process comes after the pre-qualification/verification phase. During this phase of the application procedure, you will need to place a down payment for one of the brand new cars on the LagRide platform. There are three options available on the LagRide platform for putting a down payment on a car. The first method of transferring equity is through an outright payment, requiring a down payment of ₦700,000. Third-party financing, the alternative for the second equity contribution, calls for 20% of the ₦700,000 in addition to a loan facility that would be made available to pay for the remaining balance.
There is a third equity payment option for anyone who are unable to pay the initial down payment for a LagRide vehicle. In this case, you would be introduced to a sponsor or partner who would make the initial payment and would also get 20% of your daily net revenue. Once you have paid the deposit for the LagosRide vehicle, you will receive a car and a mobile device. The down payment further includes the following in addition to the vehicle and phone:
- Registration and insurance
- Advance rent payment on dash cam for a month
- First aid kit
- E-Hailing License from LASG.
You’re now a captain of LagosRide in accordance with the rules.
LAGRIDE: THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
After a successful onboarding, you will receive a car that will be owned by Ibile Holdings of the Lagos State Government until your debt is fully repaid. After the first down payment, ₦8950 would be subtracted from your daily fares as the car repayment. This would continue for a further two years, after which you can continue with an outright payment to settle your outstanding debt. The title and ownership of the vehicle will be delivered to you once your debt has been fully repaid.
The LagRide platform’s approach to maintenance and insurance is the second important thing to note. Every decision regarding upkeep and insurance would be made on your behalf. 4% of each travel fee is set aside for maintenance and insurance. You must adhere to maintenance schedules when they show in the app to avoid being fined. You can also submit a repair request through the LagRide Driver mobile app’s maintenance area. A LagRide captain’s insurance package should include comprehensive coverage as well as protection against accidents, disabilities, and/or fatalities.
Debt service is another key area that you need to be acquainted with if you use LagosRide. The wallet you received throughout the onboarding process is used each day to handle the necessary deductions for your car payback. If you don’t have enough cash on hand, your account will be debited and the value will be subtracted as soon as you do.

CAN A LAGRIDE DRIVER COLLECT PHYSICAL CASH?
Normal practice does not allow you to accept physical cash from passengers who request your services. However, if the passenger requested a ride and indicated that cash was their preferred means of payment, you should collect the cash from them and notify them via the app that you have received it. The equivalent of the passenger’s payment would be deducted out of your LagRide wallet right away. But you cannot take money from passengers into your personal account.
