BRIEF HISTORY OF POLARIS BANK LIMITED
The bank was established in 1989 as Prudent Bank Plc after it was incorporated as a limited liability company that year. Two years later, in 1990, the bank was licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria as Merchant Bank, and still in the same year, it underwent a rebranding process that changed its name as Prudent Merchant Bank Limited.
In 2006, Prudent Merchant Bank Limited merged with four other banks to form Skye Bank Plc. The four other banks include: Bond Bank Limited, EIB International Bank Plc, Reliance Bank Limited, and Cooperative Bank Plc. However, in 2018, the Central Bank of Nigeria which regulates all banking activities in the country revoked the operating licence of Skye Bank.
This the CBN did, stating that the assets and liabilities of the bank would be taken over by a new entity, Polaris Bank as a result of the inability of the Skye Bank’s shareholders to adequately recapitalise the bank after the 2016 intervention.
Presently, Polaris Bank Limited maintains over two hundred and sixty (260) branches in all parts of the country and the headquarters of the bank is situated at 3, Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, State, Nigeria.
